12 Lug 5th National Congress of the Italian Society for Virology
Viroplant was present at the 5th National Congress of the Italian Society for Virology, the annual forum for the Italian scientists working in the different areas of Virology (www.siv-isv.org).
The poster “Isolation of new phages and biocontrol of plant bacterial diseases” by G. Martino, M. Vallino, M. Turina, M. Ciuffo presented research on phage therapy in agriculture.
Studies on the virome of phytoplasma and virus-transmitting insects were presented with two posters: “A complex virome associated to tospovirus-transmitting thrips species offers new approaches to contain the damage they cause” by M. Chiapello, L. Bosco, M. Ciuffo, S. Ottati, L. Tavella, M. Turina and ”Bacteriophages in the phytoplasma insect vector Euscelidius variegatus” by S. Abbà, M. Rossi, S. Ottati, G. Martino, M. Turina, L. Galetto, C. Marzachì, M. Vallino.
The importance of Virus Induced Gene Silencing in developing new tools for pest control was presented in the poster “TSWV-targeted VIGS in plants and thrips as possible virus control strategy: preliminary results” by S. Daghino, S. Ottati, G. Forestello, M. Ciuffo, L. Tavella, M. Turina.
